A fine-tuned global distribution dataset of marine forests
A fine-tuned global distribution dataset of marine forests is an open dataset published by figshare, under CC BY 4.0. It describes marine forests and seagrass meadows. Coverage: global. Biohotspot shows it on its map as 1 layer.
About this dataset
A fine-tuned dataset with ~2.8 million dereplicated records, taxonomically standardized for 682 species, and considering important physiological and biogeographical traits. A flagging system is implemented to sign potentially incorrect records reported on land, in regions with limiting light conditions for photosynthesis, and outside the known distribution of species, as inferred from the most recent published literature.

On the Biohotspot map
Open a layer to see it on the map, then tap any sea or draw an area to read its values there.
Get the data
Download the two CSV files from the figshare record (no login): databaseAll.csv (all quality-controlled records with flag fields) or databaseAllPruned.csv (potentially biased records removed). Load as points from the decimal-degree coordinate columns (Darwin Core).
